Remove metadata from a PDF
Drop one or more PDFs to see the hidden information inside them, then download clean copies.
How it works
- Step 1
Drop your PDFs, several at once if you like.
- Step 2
See what each file carries: authors, software, dates and other properties.
- Step 3
Download the clean copies. Each one is re-read to confirm the data is gone.

What a PDF quietly carries
Author and company names, the software that made it, creation and edit dates, XMP metadata, attached files and JavaScript.
Checked, not assumed
After cleaning, every file is opened again and inspected, so anything shown as removed really is gone.
Pages unchanged
Only hidden data is removed. The text, images and layout of every page stay as they were.
Questions
How do I remove metadata from a PDF without Acrobat?
Drop the PDF on this page and download the clean copy. Nothing to install, and the file never leaves your device.
Does removing metadata change the document?
No. Only properties, XMP data, attachments and scripts are removed. Pages look exactly the same.
Can it clean password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted PDFs can’t be rewritten without the password. Remove the protection first, then drop the file in.
Can I clean Word, Excel and PowerPoint files too?
Yes, with the metadata remover, which also handles DOCX, XLSX and PPTX and anonymises comment authors.
