Blur an image online, free and without uploading it
Drop or paste an image to blur all of it, or switch to “Parts I select” and drag over a face, a name or a number plate. Set the strength, then download. The image is processed in this tab and never sent anywhere.
How it works
- Step 1
Drop, paste or choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image. It opens in this tab and is never uploaded.
- Step 2
Blur the whole image, or choose “Parts I select” and drag over each area to hide. Move the strength slider until it looks right.
- Step 3
Download the blurred image or copy it to your clipboard. The saved copy has no location or camera data.

Whole image or just a part
Blur the full picture for a background or a teaser, or drag boxes over the details you want gone and leave the rest sharp. Click a box to remove it.
The detail is gone, not hidden
Each area is shrunk first and then blurred back up to size, so the original pixels are not in the saved file. A light blur on text can still be guessed at; turn the strength up for names and numbers.
Private by design
Many online blur tools upload your picture to their server. This one works in your browser, and the page’s security policy blocks it from sending files anywhere.
Blur, pixelate or a solid box?
All three hide detail, but they suit different jobs. Here is when to use each one.
| Effect | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Blur | Best for Faces, backgrounds, whole images, anything where the result should still look like a photo. | Watch out for Large text under a light blur can stay partly readable. Turn the strength up for text. |
| Pixelate | Best for The classic censored look for faces, number plates and screens. | Watch out for Small blocks over short text (a PIN, a house number) can be guessed. Use big blocks or a solid box. |
| Solid box | Best for Names, account numbers, addresses: anything that must be unreadable. | Watch out for Looks heavy-handed in a photo. It’s in the screenshot redactor and face blur tools. |
Questions
How do I blur part of an image?
Drop the image here, choose “Parts I select”, and drag a box over each area you want blurred. Click a box to remove it, then download.
How do I blur a whole picture?
Leave “Whole image” selected and drop the picture. Move the strength slider from 1 (a soft blur) to 10 (just colour), then download.
Can a blurred image be unblurred?
Not back to the original. The area is shrunk before it is blurred, so the fine detail no longer exists in the file. But a light blur can leave large text or a familiar face recognisable, so use a high strength for anything sensitive.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is opened and blurred in your browser and is never sent to a server. The page keeps working with your Wi-Fi turned off.
Does the blurred image keep my location?
No. The image is redrawn when you save it, so it carries no EXIF data, GPS location or camera details.
